St Mary’s Snatch Extra Time Winner to Grab County Cup

The first Humberside Schools Cup Final of the season saw an entertaining game between St Mary’s College and Snaith. The Under 12 Girls Humberside Cup Final nearly went the full distance but St Mary’s College who had dominated the game throughout scored in the first period of extra time to seal a deserved win.

Throughout the game St Mary’s were dominant with the front three of Alice McKenna, Madison Whilesmith and Lillian Stockwell being very effective with numerous shots on target. Ruby Wildbore and Lily Carew in centre midfield pressed high and kept moving the ball out wide for numerous crosses to be put into the box. The back three of Millie Cox, Megan Stubbs and Allie-Mae Hague were troubled on a few occasions by Snaith on the counter attack with Merle Adamson making a fantastic save to keep the scores level at half time.

The pattern of the game continued in the second half with St Mary’s still dominant but couldn’t find that bit of quality in front of goal. The game went into the extra time. During the first period, Madison Whilesmith who had been troubling the Snaith defence all game on the left hand side drove down the line, cut inside along the by line and rolled the ball across the goal for Lillian Stockwell to finish from 5 yards. St Mary’s attentions now focus to the Hull Schools cup final later this month.
